My Top 10 Iroh Quotes

Greetings from GuardianTree12!

I loved watching Avatar: The Last Airbender when I was younger. It was full of adventure, friendship, and laughter. And as the journey went on there was also fighting and tears. But no matter how grim things seemed, it still kept its lighthearted attitude. No other character represented this more than Uncle Iroh a wise old, man with a great sense of humor and love of tea. I’ll talk more about Uncle Iroh in a full analysis but for now I’ll just share my favorite Iroh quotes. I won’t talk much about these quotes; I’ll just let them speak for themselves.Toph_and_Iroh

10.) Hmm… Delectable tea, or deadly poison?

That is a dilemma. When Iroh says this, he has found a rare plant that could be tea or poison. It just goes to show that even Iroh can be a little impulsive, and a great love for something can backfire.

9.) The only thing better than finding something you are looking for is finding something you weren’t looking for at a great bargain!

True. Very true.

8.) It is usually best to admit mistakes when they occur, and to seek to restore honor… But not this time. Run!

Iroh says this when he sees a group of kids accidentally break someone’s window. Iroh’s wisdom fails when the crazy, angry window owner threatens violence and he advises them to run instead. This is actually part of a mini-episode in Tales of Ba Sing Se. His story in the tale is really funny but also really sad. It’s a great watch.

7.) So this is how the great Commander Zhao acts in defeat? Disgraceful. Even in exile, my nephew is more honorable than you. Thanks again for the tea. It was delicious.

Insulting someone while still being somewhat friendly…awesome!

6.) Who would have thought that, after all these years, I would return to the scene of my greatest military disgrace…As a tourist!

Even when talking about something gloomy he can still be positive. Also, I think Iroh is a believer of poetic justice.

5.) History is not always kind to its subjects.

4.) At my age there is really only one big surprise left, and I’d just as soon leave it a mystery.

He’s just so cheerful when he says this.

3.) You must never give into despair. Allow yourself to slip down that road and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength.

2.) Life happens whether you want it too or not.

1.) It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If we take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale. Understanding others, the other elements, and the other nations will help you become whole.

That’s my whole philosophy…well it’s a big chunk of my philosophy.

And that’s my list. Feel free to comment on your own favorite Iroh quotes or from Avatar: The Last Airbender in general.
